I do like Hiwatt amps. Even the later pcb models sound unique.
Fantastic example of the great Hiwatt amps here. Lots of vintage character and unbelieveable power and weight.
Problem: excessive hum from speaker. Solution : Often caused by faulty capacitors not smoothing the rectified ac properly however in this amps case it was something else as well. Well made PCB amps with high quality components and Lead dress. Watch out for the hidden mains fuse holder on the back. Its functiona is combined with voltage selector so if you put it in incorrectly then there could be trouble as you could be accidentally configuring the amp for say 110v and applying 240v.
This Hiwatt PA is quite original. Transformers, knobs, Capacitors were all as new with date codes and appropriate levels of corrostion from the early 70s.
