FAQ

Valve Amplifiers

Q. How long should I let my amp warm up for before playing

A. If the amp is at room temperature then about ninety seconds will ensure that your tubes are really warmed up.

Notes:

  • Avoid turning your heaters on and off as a rule valves don’t mind being hot or being cold but they do mind changing from one to the other so if you are taking a break from playing for 15 minutes just leave the heaters on.
  • If your amp is not at room temperature, but has been in a cold vehicle, then I suggest you let the amp get used to the new environment before turning the heaters on. Very cold tubes can develop condensation on their surface as they move from a cold environment to a warm environment and that can result in premature valve failure due to the glass expanding at different rates.
